"Thy black is fairest in my judgment's place. In nothing art thou black save in thy deeds, And thence this slander, as I think, proceeds."                       (Shakespeare's Sonnet CXXXI)

Up-and-coming investigative reporter Piper Lang is a sensational-looking blonde with midwinter sky-colored eyes and a thin cynical mouth that curves slightly into a satisfied smile. She is a determined, ambitious journalist with an off-the -charts steely core, who is passionate about getting the story. She also has someone threatening to put her six feet under if she keeps poking and prying into a controversial, Los Angeles-based self-improvement group with a cult-like following.

Malone’s job is to keep Piper healthy until she breaks the biggest story of her career about the group which a reliable source claims is really a multi-level marketing organization that operates as a cult with levels of slaves headed by masters to exploit its female members for money, sex, and free labor.

When her source bows out with two bullets to the back of her head, and after tough guys have doubled down to test Malone’s skills as a bodyguard, Piper goes all in by using herself as bait in a deadly cat-and-mouse game to get at the truth — a game that could end up costing Piper and Malone their lives.
